The Homes-Rahe scale of experiences rates getting
married as more stressful than being fired from your
job and more stressful than a close friend dying.
Why is getting married so stressful? Certainly there
are many reasons. Two of them however are quite
common.
The first and obvious being that you want your
wedding to be memorable and perfect since for many
of you it's a dream you've had since you can
remember. Therefore, you’ll be overseeing every last
detail yourself regardless if you hire a wedding
planner or not and at some point find yourself
completely overwhelmed.
The second reason is that you are going through a
major life transition. In one walk down the aisle you
will be going from woman to wife and many different
emotions will arise as you prepare to make this life
change.
You may find yourself:
- Catastrophizing
- Not sleeping
- Becoming exceptionally irritable
- Becoming very withdrawn
- Flying off the handle
- Having anxiety attacks
- Feeling depressed or sad
- Questioning weather this is the right thing for
you, getting cold feet.
- You may find yourself being in conflict quite
often with friends and family member
- Unable to make any decisions regarding the
wedding
- Feeling paralyzed
- Fantasizing about other men
- Wanting to please everyone else
- Obsessing over wedding details or one
insignificant detail
You are not alone and you are not crazy. Many brides
go through some or all of these feelings at some point
during their engagement. Fearful who to talk to about
these feelings and feeling isolated.
